Oral Hygiene Instructions

Oral hygiene instructions are recommended to infant toddlers and children to maintain a proper and a healthy oral environment. This should start from birth. Cleansing the gum pads, use of finger brush, choosing the right tooth paste and brush, when to start brushing, teaching the correct method of brushing are incorporated. If you need further assistance to explain the process, Please ask. We are here to help answer those questions.

Caries Risk Assessment

Modern caries management focuses on the detection of incipient, non – cavitated decay and diagnose if those lesions are active. We identify the level of risk for cavity development and other oral health diseases in infants, children and adolescents. This helps us to evaluate the degree of patient’s risk of developing caries and determine the intensity of the treatment and frequency of recall appointments or treatment. It also helps us to assess the efficacy of the proposed treatment and preventive protocol at recall visits.

Minimal Interventional Dentistry

Tooth decay in infants can be minimized or prevented by not allowing the infant to sleep with mother’s feed or bottle-feed milk . Infants that need a bottle to comfortably fall asleep should be given a water-filled bottle or a pacifier. Our practice is dedicated to fighting nursing bottle tooth decay. A bottle containing milk or syrup left in an infant’s mouth while sleeping and increased frequency of mother’s feed at night are the primary culprits for decay at early stage of life. Examine the teeth for any bright white spots especially close to the gum line of the upper front teeth.

Protective Sealants

Dental sealants are anti-cavity coating that is usually placed on the biting surface of the back teeth to help protect them from decay. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids. Thorough brushing and flossing help remove food particles and plaque from smooth surfaces of teeth, but tooth brush bristles cannot reach all the way into the grooves and fissures of a tooth .. Children aged 6 to 8 years are more prone to develop decay in the newly erupted permanent molar teeth. Deep grooves and fissures compromised brushing due to pre shedding mobility of milk teeth and eruption of permanent teeth are primary causative factors.

Fluoride Application

Fluoride therapy is the delivery of fluoride to the teeth topically in order to prevent tooth decay (dental caries) which results in cavities. Most commonly, fluoride is applied topically to the teeth using gels, varnishes, toothpaste/dentifrices or mouth rinse. Systemic delivery involves fluoride supplementation using water, salt, tablets or drops which are swallowed. Sealants + Fluoride = Maximum Protection against Cavities
